Wells Fargo Propel review
One of our top no fee credit cards, the Wells Fargo Propel American Express offers plenty of flexible rewards on your purchases. And no matter how you redeem your points, you're guaranteed to get great value.
Here's everything you need to know about this card.
Wells Fargo Propel rewards
Let's start with earning rewards. You'll be earning 3 Go Far Rewards per $1 spent in a variety of categories, including:
- restaurants,
- gas stations,
- rideshares,
- transit,
- travel, and
- popular streaming services.
And you’ll earn 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
Welcome bonus
There's also a great welcome bonus. You'll earn 20,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months.
Using your Propel Rewards
So what can you use your Go Far Rewards for?
Here's the list of options you have at your disposal:
- cash,
- charity donations,
- merchandise,
- gift cards, and
- travel.
For merchandise, the value of a point varies. But for all other options, 1 point is worth 1 cent.
The best option of the bunch? The cash option. There are quite a few ways you can get your rewards paid out in cash:
- credit towards a purchase,
- check, and
- cash from a Wells Fargo ATM.
That last option is why cash is our preferred method of redemption. Who doesn't like going to an ATM and getting some cash for free?
For all cash options, you'll need a redemption of at least 2,500 points for $25. For the ATM withdrawal, the minimum redemption is $20, and you can only redeem in $20 increments.

Wells Fargo Propel benefits
The fun doesn't stop at rewards. There are lots of other benefits associated with this card.
Insurance coverage
There are quite a few insurance coverages provided with this card – you can view the full details by clicking on the "Insurance" tab above.
One coverage we'll highlight here? Mobile device coverage. Pay your cell phone bill with your credit card, and you'll be covered from theft or damage to your mobile phone.
Intro purchase and balance transfer offer
Have existing credit card debt to tackle? Or have some large purchases coming up? To start you off, you'll get an APR of 0% for 12 months on balance transfers and new purchases made on the account.
Wells Fargo Propel fees
In addition to everything else that's been mentioned, the card has no fees.
Here are the key fees that are waived.
Annual fee
There's no annual fee with this card. That's money that can be kept in your pocket.
Foreign transaction fee
There's also no foreign transaction fee. Save yourself the typical 3% fee many credit cards charge when making purchases that aren't in U.S. dollars.
Wells Fargo Propel downsides
It's a great credit card, and it has a lot to offer. Are there any downsides? Not really, but there are a few small things we'll quibble with.
The biggest of these is the rewards earn rate. While good, some other no fee cash back cards offer better annual rewards on your purchases. There are lots of categories for earning 3 points per $1 spent, but some of them have limited usefulness.
Other no fee cards also have better introductory balance transfer and purchase APR offers. If that's something of interest to you, there are other cards that offer these 0% intro rates for longer.
Alternative credit cards to consider
Looking for something different? Here are a few of our top no fee cash back credit cards that have a higher earn rate on every purchase.
Of course, since they're all no fee, they also make a great pairing with the Wells Fargo Propel Amex.
